Hockey WA, in conjunction with WAIS, are looking for the next star drag flickers to join our fast track drag flicking program!

The eight (8) successful candidates will work with former Kookaburra and Perth Thundersticks star Trent Mitton to fast track their drag flicking potential. The program is fully funded and will include one pitch session per week and video analysis over a 12-week period.

Below is the required criteria for potential candidates:

- 16 years and under (minimum 14) as of 1 January 2023.

- Current State team player or around State team level (2 x coach references required if not currently in the State program)

- Existing drag flicking experience (if not, skills such as throwing a ball far, fast bowling, javelin throwing, or sprinting are desired)

From the Expressions Of Interest, a selected group of athletes will be invited to trial. Following the trial/s, Hockey WA will select 8 athletes (4 males, 4 females) to join the fast-track drag flicking program.

Expressions Of Interest close: 11.59pm on Friday 21 July 2023

Trial invitations sent: Friday 28 July 2023

Drag flicking trial: Monday 7 August (invited athletes only)

Please note, if there is a significant number of high potential drag flickers, Hockey WA will open up additional trial dates.

Times: 6am - 8am

Venue: Perth Hockey Stadium @ Curtin University

Cost: Free (fully funded by HWA and WAIS)
