Dear players, supporters, members, clubs and our broader hockey community,
Hockey WA has taken the decision to suspend all WA hockey competitions, events and activities until May 31st 2020 to reduce the spread of coronavirus throughout our hockey community. We regard the health and wellbeing of players, coaches, officials and staff at all levels within our sport as our highest priority.
Our focus in the coming weeks is to work collaboratively in supporting and guiding our clubs, regional associations and the multitude of stakeholders through this unprecedented and extremely challenging period. This includes strategies and resources to maintain our players and supporters connection to Hockey.
The delay to the start of the season will provide the opportunity for Hockey in WA to track and review the actual effect of the pandemic and collectively with our members, plan and innovate for the delivery of a 2020 hockey season.
It is clear that the situation regarding the COVID-19 is evolving and changing rapidly. We continue to monitor the coronavirus situation daily and receive regular advice and updates from bodies including Hockey Australia, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and the WA Department of Health to inform our decisions.
It is important to note that the season is not cancelled. We will continue to review the situation and provide our community with regular updates.
It is not our intention to cause undue alarm or concern but rather to help our community to be as prepared as possible, and to be fit for hockey when we are able to return to training and games.
We look forward to your ongoing support of Hockey WA, as without it, we will not be able to effectively deliver hockey in 2020.
