Hockey fever to hit Kalgoorlie in Goldfields Festival of Hockey

Get ready Kalgoorlie – hockey fever is set to sweep through your town as the Goldfields Festival of Hockey returns to the city for the second consecutive year!  

Proudly supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, and ERM, this action-packed festival brings top-tier hockey, community events, and elite development opportunities to town. 

Kicking off from Thursday 15 May, the festival begins with Hockey WA’s groundbreaking ‘Bridging the Gap’ course - designed to strengthen communication and collaboration between coaches and umpires. 

Local officials will also be able to hone their skills in an Umpire Briefing, while academy athletes from the Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association hit the turf for a special training session with elite coaches. 

On Friday, 16 May, hockey heads into local schools with fun-filled clinics across town - before the community gathers that evening for a Welcome to Hockey celebration. 

Saturday, 17 May brings the festival’s grand finale - a Junior Clinic led by Stiles Electrical Premier League players, followed by a full day of matches including local EGHA games and the headline event: 

A Stiles Electrical Premier League double-header between Whitford Hockey Club and YMCC Hockey Club, broadcast LIVE and FREE on Live Hockey WA! 

The YMCC men have been dominating so far in the Stiles Electrical Premier League so far this season, sitting outright at the top, while their newly promoted women’s side has performed above expectations, sitting in fifth. 

Both Whitford sides are still in search of their first wins of the season, setting up an intriguing double header clash in neutral territory. 

Hockey fans will have the opportunity to see Hockeyroos and Kookaburras stars up close, with the likes of Jade Smith, Zoe Newman, Cooper Burns, Maddison Brooks and Penny Squibb in attendance for the weekend.
