Stiles Electrical Premier League Round 1 Wrap

The Stiles Electrical Premier League season has officially kicked off, with the past weekend featuring plenty of tight contests and dominant performances.
Men's
A hard fought battle has seen Melville hold off a determined Whitford outfit by a single goal to record their first win of the season.
Whitford and Melville went head to head at Troy Pickard Hockey Centre on Saturday during Round 1 of the Stiles Electrical Premier League.
The first half of the contest saw a very even match-up between both sides, until Davis Atkin broke through for a goal during the 29th minute to get the visitors in front 1-0 by half time.
Following the half time break, Melville were quick to build on their lead as they charged through to score a field goal via Ben Staines.
However, Whitford would quickly respond with a field goal of their own via Ricky Hayward just a nminute later.
The contest would enter a stalemate for the remainder of the match as both sides fought with desperation to try and record a win but Melville would hold strong to claim the 2-1 victory.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Westside Wolves held off WASPS 3-2 at Lemnos Field, Fremantle Cockburn rattled UWA 3-2 at UWA Superturf.
On Sunday, Victoria Park and Reds drew level at two goals apiece at Perth Hockey Stadium, while a hat-trick via Jacob Anderson helped YMCC continue their dominant run with a 9-0 win over Mods-OGM.
On Friday night, Hale continued their strong form with a 3-1 win over North Coast Raiders at Perth Hockey Stadium.
Women's
Melville have pulled off their first clean-sheet win for the season, defeating Whitford 4-0.
Whitford and Melville faced off at Troy Pickard Hockey Centre on Saturday during Round 1 of the Stiles Electrical Premier League.
Both sides were evenly matched for the majority of the opening quarter, until Hannah Carmody surprised Whitford defenders with a field goal in the 14th minute.
As Whitford looked to play catch up, Melville mounted the pressure, resulting in the contest entering a stalemate for the second term.
Following the half time break, Melville charged through to extend their lead, with Casey Donaldson scoring a field goal in the 33rd minute.
While Whitford continued striving to catch Melville, the visitors would extend their lead further with an Abby Wilson field goal late in the third term to lead 3-0.
Despite Whitford's efforts to salvage the match, Melville held strong and extended their lead with an Abby Wilson penalty corner goal to put the exclamation mark on a 4-0 win.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Westside Wolves continued building their winning streak with a 3-0 win over WASPS at Lemnos Field.
On Sunday, Suburban Lions and YMCC could not be separated, drawing level at 0-0 at Lemnos Field, and Victoria Park defeated Reds 3-0 at Perth Hockey Stadium.
On Friday night, Hale dominated North Coast Raiders 3-0 at Perth Hockey Stadium.
Premier Division 2
In the Men's competition, Westside Wolves held off WASPS 3-2 at Lemnos Field, Melville defeated Whitford 4-2 at Troy Pickard Hockey Centre, Curtin University and Hale drew level at 3-3 following their match at Perth Hockey Stadium, YMCC pipped Rockingham Redbacks 1-0 at Lark Hill Hockey Turf, UWA dominated Fremantle Cockburn 4-0 at UWA Superturf, and Victoria Park and Reds could not be separated, with their match at Perth Hockey Stadium ending in a 2-2 draw.
The Women's Premier Division 2 competition officially kicked off with Hale dominating Curtin University 3-0 at Perth Hockey Stadium, UWA and Fremantle Cockburn drawing level at two goals apiece at UWA Superturf, Westside Wolves defeating North Coast Raiders 4-1 at Lemnos Field, Suburban Lions defeating Melville 3-1 at Lemnos Field, and Victoria Park dominating Reds 4-0 at Perth Hockey Stadium.
