2022 WA Country Men's Team - Off-field Team appointments
Published Sat 25 Jun 2022
The CBH Group Mens country championships will be held this weekend at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University, with 25 regional teams in action from Friday to Sunday across four divisions.
The 2022 WA Country men’s program will use the CBH Group Men’s Country Championships to select the 18-man team to compete in the 2022 Hockey Australia Country Challenge in Albany from 6 to 13 August 2022.
Hockey WA is pleased to announce the off-field team for the 2022 WA Country men’s team:
Head Coach: Lawrie Tylor (Bunbury)
Assistant Coach: Keith Old (Collie)
Manager: Andrew Hoare (Eastern Goldfields)
Head coach Lawrie Tylor says he is excited for the challenge ahead.
"It is about the pride in representing WA, bringing a professionalism to the whole WA country hockey program and individually as an athlete enjoying the challenge of being the best they can be and perform in the tournament," Tylor says.
"Overall my aim is to win the tournament but also to have the players enjoying the experience and wanting to be involved again for the years to come.”
Tylor is a very experienced coach, having had an extensive involvement in the preparation and coaching of successful WA teams at national championships including the Perth Thundersticks men for 4 years, WAIS Diamonds women and the WA State U13s, U15s, U18s and U21s Teams.
In addition to coaching the State Teams, Tylor has coached in the South West for a number of decades with the South West Strikers, South West Academy of Sport (SWAS), the Bunbury country week teams and south west club teams.
Collie’s Keith Old will again assist Tylor just as he did with the South West Strikers from 2014 to 2018. Keith is a former State Country U21s and men's representative and he has continued to play in the Country Masters.
In the South West, Old has coached regional teams, FHE teams and was the head coach of the Collie women’s team in the South West Hockey League from 2016 to 2018.
In 2022, Old was the head coach of the State Under-15 boys black team which travelled to Newcastle, NSW and he is the current assistant coach and GK coach at the South West Sports Academy based in Bunbury working with former Hockeyroo Nic Arrold.
Hockey WA thanks Lawrie, Keith and Andrew for their commitment and dedication to the 2022 WA Country men's program.
