2023 Perth Thundersticks teams announced

The 2023 Perth Thundersticks teams have been announced with a plethora of Hockeyroos, Kookaburras and stars of Western Australian hockey set to fight for gold in the upcoming Hockey One season.

The men’s and women’s teams comprise of 22 athletes each, selected from performances in this year’s Premier League, as well as series between the Perth Thundersticks women against the Malaysian National Hockey Team, and the men against a Premier League ‘All-Stars’ squad.

Last year, the Perth Thundersticks men made the Grand Final but suffered a close 2-0 defeat to the NSW Pride to take home the silver medal, while the women secured Bronze, defeating Hockey Club Melbourne 3-0 in the Third-Place Playoff.

This year’s talent-laden sides are raring to go one better with gold in their sights for 2023.

“It’s really pleasing to have selected our final Perth Thundersticks teams for this season after some magnificent performances from players across the year thus far,” Hockey WA Performance and Pathways Manager, Trid Woodhouse said.

“It is a difficult process to narrow down to the final teams with such a rich talent pool here in WA, but I am thrilled with how each player has given their absolute maximum during the selection process.

“It has also shown that playing for the Perth Thundersticks is the pinnacle of hockey in the state and I can see that each player is proud to be a part of the program.

“I know both teams are keen to ramp up preparations for the upcoming season and with the talent available, we are really excited for a successful year for WA hockey.”

Hockey WA CEO Fabian Ross is excited for another edition of Australia’s top hockey competition.

“It is always an exciting time when the Perth Thundersticks final teams are announced each year,” Ross said.

“The Perth Thundersticks showcases the top hockey talent that Western Australia has to offer and highlights how passionate our state is when it comes to hockey.

The Perth Thundersticks season gets underway in a double-header against the Canberra Chill on Saturday 7 October at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University.
