2024 Youth International Gryphon Cup Nominations open

The highly anticipated KMSB Youth International Gryphon Cup is set to make its return in 2024, as nominations for WA-based teams open.

The tournament, which provides a special opportunity for younger players to experience elite hockey at an international level, is set to take place from November 21 to 24.

This prestigious youth hockey tournament is open to boys and girls aged 16 years and under, with trials set to take place for metropolitan and regional players wanting to be considered for representative teams.

There will be two boys and girls teams selected from the metropolitan trials, while one boys and one girls team will be selected from the regional trial.

Those that competed in the WA Under-16 State teams earlier in the year will not be required to trial, as they will be competing in their State teams.

All State team athletes will be sent all relevant information directly.

Venue & Trial Dates

Metropolitan Athletes

The first trial for metropolitan athletes wanting to be considered for the Youth International Gryphon Cup will take place on Tuesday 17 September at Perth Hockey Stadium.

The trial session will kick off with the boys from 6.00pm to 7.30pm, followed by the girls from 7.30pm to 9.00pm.

Athletes that were successful in Trial 1 will be advised to return for the second trial on Thursday 19 September, which will follow the same scheduling as Trial 1, however the girls will commence 6.00pm to 7.30pm and boys from 7.30pm to 9.00pm.

Team announcements for the metropolitan teams will be made by close of business on Monday 23 September.

Regional Athletes

The trial date for regional athletes wanting to be considered for the Youth International Gryphon Cup will take place on Sunday 6 October from 9.00am to 12.00pm at Perth Hockey Stadium.

The Girls trial will take place on Turf 1 while the Boys trial will take place on Turf 2.

Team announcements for the regional teams will be made by close of business on Tuesday 8 October.

Player Eligibility

Perth-based players

Only players who have attended a Perth Thundersticks Academy session at either one of the North or South hubs in 2024 are eligible to apply. This includes athletes in the Emerging Thundersticks program.

Players can register for upcoming Academy programs in order to nominate but may only be eligible to trial if they attend any program prior to the trials. If a player has not attended any 2024 program, the registration fee will be returned and removed from the nomination list.

Regionally-based players

Regional players are welcome to trial for the Perth-based teams. However, there will be separate trials held for those whose primary residence sits within regional WA for the regional representative teams.

WA Under-16 State Team players

All Under-16 State Team players do not need to nominate, as they will compete in their WA State teams.

Athlete Costs

Trial Nomination Fee: $25.00

Tournament Fee: $185.00 (upon successful selection)

If you are successful in entering one of the teams, you will be required to pay a tournament fee of $185.00. This price includes the tournament fees and a uniform consisting of a shirt and a pair of socks.
