Top four sides look to maintain finals spots in women's All Flags Premier League
Published Thu 05 Aug 2021
All eyes will be on YMCC this weekend in the women's All Flags Premier League, after the side was able to claim its first victory over Melville in a shock victory last weekend.
The side's chances of staying in the Premier League are getting slimmer as the weeks go by, this weekend taking on an in-form second-placed University of WA side on Saturday afternoon.
UWA will take a seat atop the ladder if they win the game against the current wooden spoon contenders, and ladder leading Victoria Park loses to third-placed Wolves.
The match between Victoria Park and Wolves will be played at Lemnos Field on Sunday afternoon, and is followed by the same match up in the men's competition.
Friday night, Melville City will host Suburban Lions under lights, both sides looking to redeem themselves after last weekend saw neither of the two sides grab a win.
Hale's women's side is a prime example of the season's competitive nature this year, leading the ladder for a large portion of the season, and after a few close matches and missed victories, now sitting in fourth spot.
North Coast Raiders currently sit in fifth spot, and if it is able to defeat Hale this weekend, will edge closer to the top four and a finals berth.
Whitford's mens side will host UWA in the first match of the day Saturday, still chasing its first win for the 2021 All Flags Premier League season.
YMCC joined the growing list of sides able to match Melville's dominance at the weekend, and will look to earn a spot in the top five when it tackles Old Guildfordians at Lemnos Field.
Melville will take on a ninth-placed Fremantle Cockburn at Pulse stadium, before a dominant Reds side will look to further maintain their spot in the top three with a win over Hale on Saturday evening.
Curtin Universty and WASPs will play a double header at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University on Sunday afternoon.
