All Flags Premier League final round provides thrilling contests
Published Mon 30 Aug 2021
The final round of the All Flags Premier League has finished in style, with the finals set in stone and teams now on the hunt for premiership glory.
UWA kicked the round off with two wins from their doubl-header in the ‘Battle of the Universities’ against Curtin University.
Both the men’s and women’s sides won their matches, the women’s securing a 2-1 victory and the men’s handing Curtin a 5-0 drubbing.
Both sides now look to make their mark in the finals series, with both UWA sides sitting at third on their respective standings.
YMCC finished off their season securing a 1-1 draw against Suburban Lions – their second of the season.
In the men’s competition, YMCC managed to come away with a 3-1 win over Fremantle Cockburn at Lemnos Field.
Jacob Anderson starred again for his YMCC side, scoring two goals late in the match to break the 1-1 deadlock between the sides.
Victoria Park secured the minor premiership in the women’s competition, defeating Melville 2-1 at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University.
Vic Park’s Karri Somerville, fresh from Tokyo 2020, provided defensive pressure and scored a goal to lead the side to a strong victory.
In the men’s match between the two sides, Melville defeated Vic Park 2-1, securing the minor premiership with the win.
After sitting 1-0 down at three quarter time, Melville’s Samuel Geers provided the answers to Melville’s minor premiership win, scoring two goals in a three-minute period to lead his side to victory.
Reds handed Whitford a 4-1 drubbing at Aquinas Turf in the men’s competition, with Brodee Foster scoring two goals to lead his side to a win.
Reds have hit their strides at the right moment, heading into the finals series in red-hot form, the one loss to Melville the only blemish in recent weeks.
In a close match at Perth Hockey Stadium, Hale narrowly defeated WASPs 1-0 in the women’s competition, looking to continue that form heading into the finals.
Hale secured two wins from the double-header, with the men’s side defeating WASPs 2-1 in a fiery contest between the two sides.
Wolves defeated North Coast Raiders 5-2 in a strong outing for the women’s side at Warwick Hockey Centre; Elly Buckley’s hat-trick leading the side to the win.
The Wolves men’s side handed Old Guildfordians Mundaring a 10-1 drubbing at Guildford Turf.
Wolves shared the love amongst the side, with seven individual goal-scorers showcasing the sides’ attacking power heading into the finals.
