All Flags Premier League finals set to soar
Published Thu 19 Aug 2021
The All Flags Premier League finals series is locked and loaded from the first weekend of September, with teams fighting to have a chance at reaching the ultimate glory on the final day of the season.
All finals matches across the All Flags Premier League and Premier Divisions will be played at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University, with match days providing a festival of hockey across PHS1 and PHS2.
In the men’s All Flags Premier League, the top five placed teams on the standings will head into the finals, with the ladder-leader having a bye in the first week of qualifying/elimination finals.
Currently, Reds Hockey Club sits in first, overtaking Melville who in recent weeks have succumbed to two draws and two losses, losing their top position on the standings after leading for the majority of the season.
That leaves, at this stage, Melville, Victoria Park, UWA and Westside Wolves in the top seat to compete in the first week of finals, with WASPs and YMCC at their heels and still a chance to take the fifth position off of Wolves.
In the women’s competition, the top four on the standings go through to compete in the first round of finals, with 1st playing 2nd and 3rd playing 4th in the semi-finals.
At this stage, Victoria Park will be facing Westside Wolves, and UWA will face Hale, but the tight race at the top can lead to these positions switching in the blink of an eye.
The top four teams on the women’s standings can’t lose their finals position, with Hale in fourth having too great of a margin on points to be overcome by the North Coast Raiders who sit in fifth.
This year’s finals series is shaping up to be one of the closest finishes to a season in recent memory – make sure you don’t miss a minute of the action in an historic All Flags Premier League season!
