All Flags Premier League Grand Final Captain's Corner I Rachel Frusher

Published Fri 17 Sep 2021

After winning their first ever Grand Final in the women’s competition in 2020, Victoria Park will look to go back-to-back in the 2021 All Flags Premier League Grand Final.

Vic Park Captain, Rachel Frusher, says that here side is raring to go and ready for the challenge against a strong Westside Wolves side.

“It will be a tough match against Wolves, every game against them is always a great contest,” says Frusher.

“We’ve almost split the games this year in terms of wins and losses against them, so whoever’s better on the day will go home with the win and we’re confident that we can step up to the challenge.”

Frusher says that a lot of her side’s success is a credit to the strength of the core group they have, consisting of a plethora of Hockeyroos stars.

“I think our season’s been pretty successful this year; it definitely helps that we have a strong core group of girls that have grown together over the past few years,” Frusher says.

“The extra additions of the girls from Tokyo really helps but the growth of the younger girls who have come up the ranks together combined with this is what makes it a special group to play with.”

The race for a spot in the Grand Final was a heated one, with the core four top teams set in stone with any side likely to challenge for a place in the last game of the season.

“Finals this year was really tough, especially with the top four locked in; it shows that the four sides fighting for a spot we definitely worthy of making it there,” Frusher says.

“I think the competitiveness has really helped our side develop and become stringer heading into the Grand Final.”

“We’re really keen to be back and have a crack at winning our second ever Grand Final; it would be a special moment in the club’s history.”
