All Flags Premier League Grand Final Captain's Corner I Dan Robertson
Published Fri 17 Sep 2021
After winning the 2020 Grand Final, Reds will look to replicate their efforts once again in the 2021 All Flags Premier League Grand Final but will have to overcome the top side in Melville come Saturday.
Reds Captain Dan Robertson is hopeful that his side can perform once again on the big stage and says that his side is feeling good heading into the big match.
“We’re really excited to have another crack at a Grand Final victory this season,” Robertson says.
“There’s such a great vibe around the team and the club and to be back again with majority of the same group is something pretty special.”
Speaking on the season, Robertson says that his side’s journey to the Grand Final was a more difficult task this to accomplish this year.
“I think the competitiveness of the competition as a whole really stepped up this season,” Robertson says.
“We had a style of play last season leading to a Grand Final victory that teams are now able to negate more often, so it’s been a real challenge this year to make it this far and perform at a high level but also really rewarding.”
“The close games we had during the season and especially finals has definitely put us in good stead; we know that we’re able to dig deep and grind out a win no matter the circumstances.”
Robertson says that taking on Melville will be no easy feat, but he’s confident that his side can step up to the challenge against the league’s top team this year.
“Matches against Melville are always up their with the toughest,” Robertson says.
“They have a great core group and match-up well across the field, so for us to win, we just have to play clean, team-first hockey.”
Robertson says that he’s excited for the match ahead and that going back-to-back will be an historic moment for the club.
“It would be unreal to go back-to-back; we had such a long drought between winning a Grand Final until 2018,” Robertson says.
“It’s done great things for the club and you can feel the community feeling around the club grow every year.”
