All Flags Premier League heats up for run home

Published Fri 16 Jul 2021

The All Flags Premier League is heating up heading towards the back end of the season, with teams fighting for the best chance for glory when finals arrive in the coming months.

Melville City continue to dominate the men’s competition; they were given a scare in their last match against OGMHC, with star defender James Day looking like he injured his hand, but he has been cleared of damage.

Day sits at 29 goals for the season, with the next best Jason Gabriel and Aaron Kleinschmidt on 13; an incredible achievement and even more-so when all 29 have been from penalty corners.

Melville faces off against Curtin University this weekend, with Curtin still in search of their first win of the season.

Victoria Park and Hale continue to fight for the pole position on the standings in the women’s competition, with Vic Park just nudging ahead with a five-better goal-difference.

Hale will look to take-down eighth-placed Suburban Lions this weekend, with Vic Park facing-off against a strong UWA outfit who are pushing towards finals in fourth.

Both the sides have the top two scorers in the league, with Hales Georgina Morgan and Vic Park’s Harriet Collins putting on stellar attacking performances this season.

YMCC is still in search of their first win of the season in the women’s competition when they go up against North Coast Raiders this weekend.

The Raiders sit in ninth and are directly above the winless YM side, with YMCC hopeful that this is their opportunity to finally snatch a win this season.

Reds will look to strengthen their position on the ladder in the men’s competition, when they face a fifth-placed YMCC this weekend.

Reds have jumped above UWA on the standings and now sit in second with a game in hand and now look likely to present a challenge to Melville who sit clear at the top.

Westside Wolves will look to apply pressure on the top two sides in Hale and Vic Park in the women’s competition when they face WASPs.

An interesting match-up for the women’s competition, with Wolves in third and WASPs in fifth seeing the result playing a big role in deciding the top teams heading into the run home.
