All Flags Premier League Insider I Issue #4
Published Thu 29 Apr 2021
After the unfortunate postponement of the Anzac Day weekend of hockey, the All Flags Premier League will no doubt kick up a gear as we resume this weekend. The impacts of the stepped down approach taken by the WA Government will no doubt be felt, however, especially for the double-header between Wesley South Perth and Westside Wolves opening the weekend. Their Friday night battle will see no spectators in attendance and off-field staff wearing masks, providing an interesting environment for players without spectator noise and communication challenges from the bench.
Saturday will see two double-headers, Melville City taking on Curtin University whilst University of WA host Victoria Park Xavier. The former match-up will see the only Men’s team still with maximum points (Melville City) taking on an opposition desperate to put some breathing space between their rivals. The latter match-up will perhaps be the most eagerly viewed, as in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions, University of WA and Victoria Park Xavier are only separated by goal difference, and therefore each club will be seeking maximum points on Saturday to put some space between each other.
The big feature for Sunday is the Men’s match between Old Guildfordians Mundaring and Fremantle Cockburn. This match is being played at Lark Hill Sportsplex in Rockingham to showcase Hockey WA’s flagship competition to hockey fans from that area. The match is becoming a bit of an annual event for the teams and should be a great occasion for all involved.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Round 4’s All Flags Premier League Player of the week Alec Rasmussen and 2020 Eric Pearce Top Goal Scorer Liam Flynn will be looking to improve their tallies when Hale take on Whitford.
