All Flags Premier League Insider I Issue #6

Published Thu 13 May 2021

The Men’s All Flags Premier League continues to remain a tight race following matches over the weekend. Small changes to standings have occurred, but there remain no clear gaps between teams at the moment.

Old Guildfordians Mundaring will be seeking to build on the form that earned them 3 points over Curtin University last week when they tackle a proud Victoria Park Xavier team that earned themselves a draw against Old Aquinians on Sunday. YMCA Coastal City were well ‘Marshall-ed’ in their win against Whitford last week, and they will be hoping both Marshall Puzey and Marshall Roberts continue their form into their match against Curtin University on Saturday.

A number of matches around the grounds this week could well be decided by the quality of the defensive units, with Brayden King and Frazer Gerrard both leading their respective defensive lines when Hale take on University of WA, whilst Tarrant Haami-Jones will be hoping his Old Aquinians defence can hold up against leading goal scorer James Day, whose Melville City team have already scored 33 goals this season.

The full list of Men’s matches for this weekend are:

Vic Park v OGMHC - 3:30pm Saturday 15 May @ Perth Hockey Stadium

Fremantle Cockburn v WASPs - 4:00pm Saturday 15 May @ Lakelands Hockey & Sporting Facility

YMCC v Curtin University - 5:30pm Saturday 15 May @ Lemnos Field

Westside Wolves v Whitford - 3:30pm Sunday 16 May @ Lemnos Field

Melville v Reds - 4:00pm Sunday 16 May @ Pulse Stadium

Hale v UWA - 4:00pm Sunday 16 May @ Hale Turf

The Women’s All Flags Premier League saw the vast majority of Hockey Australia Athletes impose themselves onto the competition last weekend, raising the pace and quality of all matches played. This will be ramped up further this coming weekend with the entire squad being available for their clubs. Most matches will be battles of the midfield with players to watch out for including Stephanie Kershaw for Wesley South Perth, Jane Claxton for Victoria Park Xavier, Amy Lawton for Suburban Lions and Mariah Williams for Hale. Rachel Lynch played a massive part in Curtin University’s win over North Coast Raiders last week and fellow goalkeeper Elizabeth Duguid was critical in Wesley South Perth’s win over University of WA. Both shot-stoppers will again be looking to go one better and keep clean sheets against their respective opposition this coming weekend.
