ANZAC Day classics the highlight of bumper Premier League round

A thriller at Aquinas Turf highlighted an elite week of Premier League ANZAC Round action, with Fremantle Cockburn claiming a last-minute victory over Reds in the David Bell Cup.

Reds went up 2-0 early in the piece, with Cameron Buesnel and Brodee Foster scoring in the 15th and 22nd minutes respectively to give their side the upper hand.

Fremantle Cockburn’s Declan Spencer then quickly replied in the 24th minute and again in the 38th to see the sides sit level heading into the final term.

In the final moments of the clash, the Magpies’ Gobindraj Gill found a score for his side to to snatch the points off Reds in an ANZAC Day classic.

At Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University, the men’s and women’s Victoria Park and WASPs sides competed in an ANZAC Day double-header – watch the full match replays.

Victoria Park claimed their first win of the season in the women’s match, defeating WASPs 2-1.

WASPs’ Rina Hughes opened the scoring in the 24th minute, but goals in the 28th and 47th minutes to Victoria Park’s Kayla O’Sullivan and Chloe Buzza secured the victory for their sides.

In the men’s match, a tough effort from both sides resulted in a 3-3 scoreline at the final siren.

WASPs’ Chaz Davies hit the scoreboard for the first time for his new side, scoring twice in the 24th and 53rd minutes, with the latter securing a point for WASPs.

The Curtin University and Hale men’s and women’s sides opened the round at Hale Turf, with both Hale teams recording big wins to give them a boost on the ladder heading into the thick of the season.

In the women’s match, Hale recorded an 8-0 victory, with six players scoring and Line Malan securing a hat-trick.

The Hale men recorded a thumping 17-1 victory, including a phenomenal day out from Liam Flynn who scored 11 goals in a record performance.

The YMCC men recorded their second win of the season, defeating Old Guildfordians Mundaring 3-1 at Lemnos Field - Kookaburra Jacob Anderson starred with two goals in the victory.

The Suburban Lions women have started the season in strong form, adding another win over Reds this week.

Reds’ Rachel Barclay opened the scoring in the 18th minute, but two scores in the 20th and 33rd minutes from Jolie Sertorio and Georgina Dowd claimed the points for the Lions in a 2-1 win.

Westside Wolves claimed the double in their clash against Whitford, with both the men and women claiming solid wins.

An Elly Buckley hat-trick helped Wolves secure a dominant 7-1 victory in the women’s match, while two goals to Simon Benetti steered the men to a 4-2 victory.

UWA have continued an undefeated run over both the men’s and women’s competitions with both sides winning their clashes in strong fashion.

The women’s UWA side claimed a strong 6-1 win over North Coast Raiders – their first of the season after a finishing on level terms with Victoria Park in round 1.

The men’s UWA side defeated last year’s premiers Melville 3-0 in a strong showing at Melville Toyota Stadium.

Kookaburra Flynn Ogilvie scored in the 17th minutes, but two quick goals from Cain Evans and Ben Ashford in the 51st and 56th minutes for UWA strengthened their lead and ultimately proving to be too much for Melville to overcome.
