Boyanup Hockey Club to celebrate 90 years in 2024

A South West hockey club is calling on past and current members from far and wide to reunite and reminisce its ongoing legacy as it gears up to celebrate a huge milestone.

Boyanup Hockey Club will be celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2024 and are calling on past and current players & members to get in touch with the club for an invitiation to celebrate the club's history and success in a special celebration in Ferguson Valley.

The Club will be showing a range of memorabilia from the Club’s history as well as doing live interviews with former players in attendance.

The Club will celebrate its 90th anniversary on Saturday March 16, with tickets set to go on sale soon.

The Boyanup Men's Hockey Club was formed in 1934, where players were said to have been taught how to play the game by the Boyanup Ladies Team - which had been established four years prior.

In 1936, Boyanup HC joined the Bunbury & Districts Hockey Association, travelling around various South West towns like Donnybrook, Harvey, Brookhampton, Stratham and Dardanup to play games.

Boyanup HC won a premiership in its second year competing in the Bunbury & Districts Hockey Association.

Although the women's team folded in 1978, the team was resurrected in 2000, taking out the premiership in their first year back and have been going strong ever since.

Over the years, Boyanup Hockey Club has enjoyed plenty of success from five A-Grade Men's premierships in a row to winning Champion Club nine years in a row.

Numerous juniors have come through to represent WA such as Marshall Roberts, Michael Nicoli, Candyce Peacock, Coby Green, Jake Harvie, Tom Harvie, Sophie Johnston, Curtis Read, Phoenix Green, Nicolas McCaughan, Rosie McCaughan, Ky Fisher, Fletcher Wetherell, Bede Wetherell, Cobi Fisher, Raine Fisher, Charlie Johnston and Jack Tosana.

A number of senior players have also gone on to represent WA and Australia, including Kane Wetherell, Anita Scott, Lauren Johnston, Jane Manning, Jenna Gmeiner, Marie Haddet, Michael Rae and Dean Lomax.
