By the Numbers: Perth Thundersticks' 2024 Liberty Hockey One season

With the 2024 Liberty Hockey One season at an end, let’s look at the stats behind the Perth Thunderstick’s campaign.
Games Played
From round one to the grand final, a total of 50 games were played across both the men’s and women’s competitions during the 2024 Liberty Hockey One season, 16 of which featured the Perth Thundersticks.
In the Thundersticks’ eight men’s games and eight women’s games, a total of 39 players ran out for WA across the men’s and women’s competitions, with 16 of them not missing a game.
Brayden King, Jake Harvie, Tom Wickham, Coby Green, James Day, Tom Harvie, Sam Ashton and Brodee Foster featured in all eight men’s matches for 2024, while Pippa Morgan, Courtney Schonell, Lexie Pickering, Penny Squibb, Jesse Reid, Liné Malan, Annie Gibbs and Eva Drummond featured in all eight women’s matches.
Amid many familiar faces that went around for another season, the Thundersticks welcomed several new faces.
Eva Drummond, Josh Bowen, Sam Ashton, Angus Adamson, Max Freedman, Chaz Davies and Saysha Pillay made their Hockey One debuts in 2024, while the likes of Courtney Schonell & Kaitlin Nobbs competed in their first Hockey One season for the Thundersticks since joining from NSW Pride, and Fraser Heigh & Christian Starkie ran out in Thundersticks colours since joining from Adelaide Fire.
Along with several debuts, there were a few players that made returns to Hockey One after missing the 2023 season. Those players were Dane Gavranich, Coby Green, Christian Starkie, Courtney Schonell, Aleisha Power, Jolie Sertorio and Candyce Peacock.

Goal Scoring
Throughout the entire 2024 Liberty Hockey One season, a whopping 290 goals were scored across both the men’s and women’s competitions – with both the men’s and women’s players scoring a total of 145 goals each.
Of the 145 goals scored in the Women’s competition, 70 came from field goals, 39 came from field conversions, 30 came from penalty corners and six from penalty strokes.
The Perth Thundersticks Women’s team scored a total of 43 goals throughout the season – comprising of 23 field goals (the highest in the competition), 14 field conversions (the highest in the competition), five penalty corners and a penalty stroke.
Along with scoring the highest number of goals in the overall women’s competition, the Perth Thundersticks scored the highest average number of goals per game (5.38), the highest average number of field goals per game (3.75), and the highest average number of penalty corners per game (1.5).
The Perth Thundersticks Women’s team also boasted the second-best penalty corner efficiency rate with 36.36%, behind Canberra Chill’s 50%.
A total of 11 different players within the Women’s team scored goals, with Lexie Pickering being the team’s top goal scorer with 13 for the season, followed by Liné Malan & Courtney Schonell with seven each, then Eva Drummond with five, Penny Squibb with three goals, Kaitlin Nobbs & Jesse Reid with two goals each, and Neasa Flynn, Candyce Peacock, Karri Somerville & Georgia Wilson with a goal each.
After finishing the regular season with 12 goals to her name, Pickering was named the league’s top goal scorer for the women’s competition.

Of the 145 goals scored in the Men’s competition, 55 came from field goals, 54 came from penalty corners, 23 from field conversions, 13 from penalty strokes.
The Perth Thundersticks Men’s team scored a total of 22 goals throughout the season – comprising of 11 penalty corners, five field goals, four from field conversions, and two penalty strokes.
Along with scoring the third highest number of goals in the overall men’s competition, the Perth Thundersticks scored the highest average number of penalty corners per game alongside Canberra Chill with 1.62 and boasted a penalty corner efficiency rate of 25.49%.
A total of seven different players within the Men’s team scored goals, with Brodee Foster being the team’s top goal scorer with six for the season, followed by James Day with five, Tom Wickham with four, Will Battistessa, Jake Harvie & Tom Harvie with two goals each, and Coby Green with one goal.
