Classic tournament enjoys “fantastic” start

Published Sat 08 Oct 2022

Hockey WA’s Indoor Classic, proudly supported by the Shire of Northam, has enjoyed a wonderful start, according to Shire of Northam President Chris Antonio.

The Indoor Classic, staged at Northam Recreation Centre and based on the highly successful outdoor tournament the Ric Charlesworth Classic, commenced today, 8 October, and reaches a thrilling conclusion tomorrow Sunday 9 October. It is run through support from the Australian Sports Commission’s Regional Event Fund.

“It’s wonderful to see so many elite-level performers in action in Northam," Shire President Antonio said.

"The level of play is excellent and the competition has enjoyed a fantastic start.

"I encourage everyone to come down and watch – we don’t often get elite-level sport in Northam – and in this tournament you get to see the best of the best across both male and female competition as well as some great junior talent including some locals.

"If there are any pool players out there, if you want to get your angles right, come and watch the Hockey WA Indoor Classic – indoor hockey shows how great hockey players are at bouncing the ball off the sides and using the angles.

"Indoor hockey compared to outdoor hockey and soccer is such a high-scoring sport too – come on down, watch some elite-level sport and see plenty of great goals. There’s lots of action and it's completely free."

The Hockey WA Indoor Classic runs from 8-9 October at Northam Recreation Centre - entry is free.
