Congratulations 2020 RAC SportsWest Awards finalists
Published Tue 02 Feb 2021
Tammy Standley, pictured, is one of two affiliated with Hockey WA to be finalists in the RAC SportsWest Awards.
Hockey WA would like to congratulate Tammy Standley and Harlies Hockey Club, who have been named finalists in the 2020 RAC SportWest Awards. The RAC SportsWest Awards celebrate the role sport plays in the communities across Western Australia and acknowledges those that have been able to achieve at a high level.
Tammy Standley has been nominated for the TAB Official of the Year after her outstanding work as an official in the international hockey scene.
Standley’s career as a Technical Official began in Hockey WA’s Premier League, with her career progressing to acting as a Technical Delegate & Match Manager in the FIH Pro League for 2020, as well as her appointment as a Technical Delegate in the now-postponed 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.
“I’ve been so fortunate for the amazing opportunities I’ve had as a Technical Official, travelling to many places around the world that I would otherwise not have had the opportunity to do so,” Standley said.
“I strongly encourage anyone who loves the sport of hockey to get involved and become a Technical Official – it might not seem as exciting as being a player, but it’s a different kind of excitement that allows you to be in the middle of the action working with other amazing officials and athletes.
“I thank Hockey WA again for nominating me for this honour and I hope it encourages others to take up the role of officiating.”
Harlies Hockey Club were nominated for the Healthway Healthy Club Award, after making significant changes to their club to promote healthy messaging.
Harlies made changes to their food-and-beverage offerings and actively encouraged its members, visitors and families to make healthier choices.
Harlies were recipients of a Healthy Sporting Club grant for the 2020 season, which allowed them to purchase new canteen equipment, resulting in the club re-thinking the food they have on offer and the way in which they prepare it.
“Harlies Hockey Club are thrilled to be finalists in the RAC SportWest Awards,” the Club said.
“During the 2020 season we implemented new club initiatives with the support of the Healthway grant and were able to promote healthy food and beverage choices for our players and supporters which is fantastic.
“It’s amazing to be recognised for our efforts and achievements in making positive, healthy changes to our club canteen and we encourage other clubs to make the same worthwhile changes.”
The 2020 RAC SportWest Awards were to be held on Thursday 11 March 2021.
