COVID-19 Update | 30 June 2021
Published Wed 30 Jun 2021
Hockey WA wishes to provide an update on COVID-19 impacts to the hockey community.
Hockey WA advises that, in line with the recently announced four-day lockdown across the Perth Metropolitan and Peel regions, no hockey activities are to occur from 12:01am Tuesday 29 June until 12:01am Saturday 3 July.
As a result, Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University is closed and Hockey WA staff are working remotely.
Specifically:
- The Talent Development department are planning for this weekend’s Thundersticks Academy sessions to go ahead however contingencies are also being explored and Hockey WA will continue to contact the affected athletes and parents direct as more details come to hand. Hockey WA is particularly aware of the impact this lockdown has on regionally-based athletes and their travel plans and we are working to ensure they are still serviced appropriately.
- Hockey WA will inform stakeholders of our position regarding the Fuel to Go & Play Championships, starting Monday 5 July, by Thursday evening, 1 July. Upon updated government advice, Hockey WA will communicate relevant updates direct to nominated members, through Competitions Coordinator Lisa Williamson, and subject to outcomes, then provide official communications via Hockey WA channels.
Hockey WA strenuously encourages everyone to follow the current WA State Government Guidelines, including:
- Wearing a mask, unless; while at home, during vigorous outdoor exercise, while in a vehicle with members of your own household.
- Stay at home, unless; for work if you are an essential worker, for purchasing essential goods, for one hour of outdoor exercise per day within 5km of your home, for medical or health care purposes.
- Following healthy hygiene practices.
- Maintaining social distancing of 1.5m at all times.
- Downloading and using the SafeWA App and signing in at all venues.
- If you are unwell or have any symptoms, stay home.
- If you have been to any of the exposure sites, get tested and remain home until you have returned a negative test result - more information on exposure sites and testing here
As part of what we all hope will be a return to play on Saturday, clubs need to consider a thorough clean of all public areas within venues, ensuring sanitation stations are fully available, and attendance registers and the SAFE WA App are available.
The health and safety of the community remains Hockey WA’s number one priority. Please stay safe.
Hockey WA will communicate further updates as and when they become available.
