Curtin to celebrate club legends
Published Fri 05 Aug 2022
Curtin University Hockey Club will celebrate two legends of the club from the women’s Premier League side this weekend, acknowledging Kate Denning’s 300th (currently at 320) and Chantelle Ciallella’s 350th (370) Premier League matches this weekend.
Denning has been a long-standing pirate, joining the club at the age of 13 and following in the footsteps of her mother, WA hockey and Curtin legend Elspeth Denning.
With an outstanding state and national record, spanning across representation for WA at all age levels and including a stint for the Hockeyroos, Denning has been a key pillar in the Curtin University and WA hockey scene and looks set to continue on to 350 games and beyond in the coming years.
Ciallella, a seven-time Jackie Pereira Top Goal Scorer Award recipient, has been one of the Premier league’s most prolific scorers in history.
Ciallella’s time in hockey has seen the star play in four Australian Hockey League titles, back-to-back premierships with Curtin and selection into the National Development Squad.
The celebrations of the two club stalwarts will coincide with a Curtin University Hockey Club ‘Club Day’ – more information here. The WA hockey community are encouraged to make the trip to Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University on Saturday to celebrate two of the state’s best.
