Hockey WA wishes to congratulate Damon Diletti, who was inducted into the WAIS WA Hall of Champions on Monday night.

Affectionately known as 'Dingo', Diletti is a former Kookaburras goalkeeper who holds a unique place in WA sporting history as one of a handful of athletes to have won medals at three successive Olympics.

Diletti represented the Kookaburras 133 times in his career, securing a silver medal at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, as well as bronze medals at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 and the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Diletti also played in six Champions Trophy tournaments, achieving gold in 1999 in Brisbane, two World Cups, as well as a Commonwealth Gold medal in Kuala Lumpur in 1998 - the first time field hockey had been played at the Commonwealth Games.

Off the field, Diletti has coached at a national level with both the senior and junior teams, enjoyed a coaching stint in New Zealand, and remains involved in WA hockey as a coaches co-ordinator for Modernians Hockey Club, where his sons Judd, Oscar and Chas play.

Diletti told The West Australian it was "humbling" to be inducted into the Hall of Champions.

“To be inducted in the Hall of Champions, it is a true honour," he said.

"I hope it inspires others as well to keep pushing forward and believe in themselves and make the most of their sporting careers.

"You are a long time retired, so while you are in there, get stuck in and go as hard as you can.”
