Double-headers galore in All Flags Premier League this weekend
Published Fri 30 Jul 2021
A weekend of double-headers is nearing, with more promising All Flags Premier League action set to shine, just in time for finals.
Six of this weekend's eleven matches will be pair-ups between clubs men's and women's sides, starting with match ups between Curtin and Wolves on Saturday afternoon.
In the women's All Flags Premier League, third-placed Wolves will look to jump ahead of second-placed Hale on the ladder with a win against Curtin, which is sitting in second-bottom spot on the ladder.
Hale's women's side will have a tough opponent in fourth-placed UWA, however the last time these two teams matched up Hale was able to win 5-2.
Later in the day, fourth-placed UWA men's side will take on seventh-placed Hale men's side, which was able to beat a powerful Melville side 5-3 last weekend.
The final back-to-back club game will be played Sunday afternoon between YMCC and Melville, with the men's competition set to be a show-stopper.
A young and fast YMCC side will take on ladder leading Melville, and look to become just the fourth side this season to beat the dominant team.
YMCC's women's side is clutching at straws, desperate for a win against Melville this weekend to save themselves from possible relegation at the end of the season.
Round 18 for the men will open at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University with a Friday night under lights between WASPs and Reds, with the visiting side looking to claim redemption after losing on the same turf last weekend to Victoria Park.
WASPs women will take on Lions shortly after, the last time these two sides matched up resulting in a 1-0 win for WASPs.
Victoria Park women's side sits atop the ladder in the women's All Flags Premier League and will look to hold off an unpredictable Raiders side, with their form this season constantly fluctuating.
Sunday afternoon in the men's league will see Whitford take on Fremantle Cockburn and Old Guildfordians line up against second-placed Victoria Park.
