Published Thu 16 Jun 2022
Elite-level indoor hockey will hit Perth, Western Australia, from 2 to 16 December with the inaugural Hockey WA International Indoor Challenge set to shine, featuring high-level indoor sides from across the globe.
The Hockey WA International Indoor Challenge, set to be held at the world-class indoor facilities at Mundaring Arena, will pit indoor sides from WA and beyond against each other in a tournament format, providing elite indoor competition play.
The competition also provides countries that may not already have the opportunity, a chance to compete in an elite indoor format, particularly ahead of the Indoor World Cup in 2023.
With a number of teams already interested, Hockey WA Head of Asian Engagement, former Kookaburra Chris Ciriello, says the competition is set to deliver an indoor hockey spectacle like no other.
“The Hockey WA International Indoor Challenge provides the perfect opportunity for indoor sides from across the globe to compete in an elite environment right here in Perth,” Ciriello says.
“It also provides our WA athletes the chance to develop and compete against some of the best across the world.
“We are really excited to elevate indoor hockey here in WA and provide visiting nations the opportunity to experience Perth and further their country’s development in the indoor hockey format.”
Hockey WA CEO, Fabian Ross, is excited by the prospect of visiting nations experiencing indoor hockey at the highest level.
“It is really pleasing to be able to offer an opportunity for international teams to experience a high-level indoor competition right here in Perth,” Ross says.
“Indoor hockey is a fantastic format of the game, and it is great to be able to further Hockey WA’s offerings of elite events in this format.
“We are really excited to welcome teams to Perth and the opportunity for them to experience the sites WA has to offer.”
Full competition packages are assigned to the tournament for the ease of club, academy and international teams.
Cultural experiences packages are also available for interested teams, providing attendees the opportunity to experience the sights of the Perth Metropolitan region, some of the best experiences WA has to offer.
Expressions of interest are open for teams that are interested in competing in the Hockey WA International Indoor Challenge - contact Chris Ciriello at chris.ciriello@hockeywa.org.au for more information.
