Round one of the 2021 All Flags Men’s Premier League has kicked off in style at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University, with teams commencing their journey to glory and the title of champion in Western Australia’s premier hockey competition.

The season commenced with a round two fixture taster of high-quality hockey for fans, between Reds Hockey Club and University of Western Australian Hockey Club in a 2020 Grand Final rematch.

Reds triumphed again over UWA with a 2-1 win over the side seeing them in good stead heading in to their round one fixture this Sunday.

Round one officially began on Saturday with a quadruple-header of matches, with Curtin University Hockey Club and Whitford Hockey Club facing off in a midday fixture in perfect conditions for hockey, giving life to the season.

A strongly contested match resulted in a 2-2 draw between the sides, with 2020 bottom team Whitford starting the 2021 season with points on the board.

The action continued with Old Guildford Mundaring facing a strong Hale outfit, with the star-studded Hale side dominating play and taking away the chocolates with a 4-0 win led by star Perth Thunderstick Liam Flynn.

A mouth-watering match-up between two powerhouse clubs in Melville and WASPS followed; Melville were the victors thanks to an astonishing performance by James Day, who scored a haul of four goals.

Victoria Park looked to continue a strong 2020 season, facing YMCC in the final match of the day.

A heated match between the two sides with YMCC looking close to scoring on multiple occasions, but in the end, Vic Park were too strong, running away with a 3-0 win.

Off the back of a round two Grand Final rematch fixture, Reds looked to continue their red hot form against a formidable Wolves outfit at their home at Aquinas College.

It was a tight tussle between the two strong opponents, but Reds capitalised on their opportunities in the last quarter after a late goal to Seb Ewing claimed the side a thrilling 1-0 victory.

UWA looked to claim points on the table after a disappointing loss to Reds in a strong performance, with a fresh Fremantle Cockburn side standing in the way after a three day break for the UWA side.

A strong performance by UWA after a scoreless first half saw the side claim their first win for the season in a strong 2-0 win.
