Fuel To Go & Play Goldstix Carnival set for fresh competition

Published Thu 25 Aug 2022

Junior hockey players from across the state’s South West region will take the field in a festival of hockey on Sunday 28 August, when the Fuel To Go & Play Goldstix Carnival hits the Busselton Hockey Stadium.

The carnival, proudly supported by Healthway, promoting the Fuel to Go & Play health message, will feature 30 teams from the region this year.

The carnival will provide plenty of hockey action for the players and teams competing, with players from Year 1 to Year 6 to compete in 5-a-side and 7-a-side matches.

“The Fuel To Go & Play Goldstix Carnivals provides a fantastic opportunity for juniors to compete in a carnival atmosphere, in a format that drives maximum exposure to the sport,” Hockey WA General Manager of Game & Community Development Shayley McGurk Davy says.

“It is really pleasing to see such a large uptake in this year’s carnival in Busselton which supports hockey development in the South West region.

“Through Healthway’s support, we can continue to not only provide a fun day of hockey, but participants will be encouraged to fuel up with healthy food and drink, ensuring they can perform their best on and off the field. We look forward to staging a wonderful and memorable carnival for all parties involved.”

Healthway and Lotterywest CEO Ralph Addis said sporting organisations, such as Hockey WA, were an ideal avenue to help promote healthy messages to young people across the state.

“Encouraging young people to eat healthily and make better food choices, which in turns gives them the right kind of energy to bring their A-game is paramount,” he said.

“Best of luck to all the teams involved in this weekend’s event.”

Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, St Mary Mackillop College, Margaret River, Exies, Associates, Geographe Primary School, Busselton, Towns Souths, Georgiana Molloy Anglican School, Capel, Warren, Marist and Boyup Brook will compete in the carnival.
