Goal-fests sees teams kick off in dominant fashion

Published Mon 08 Mar 2021

Round one of the Ric Charlesworth Classic continued in dominant fashion at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University, with the women’s Breakers and men’s Highlanders securing strong wins off of a barrage of goals from both sides.

The women’s Breakers looked to come out of the blocks firing after narrowly missing the Grand Final in the inaugural tournament, securing a 6-1 win over the Suns in a strong offensive performance.

The Suns were unable to get past the Breakers defence who had a stronghold over their attack, with a consolation goal half way through the match proving to be little in firing the side towards matching their counterparts.

The men’s Highlanders replicated the all-out attacking mindset of the women’s Breakers, piling on four unanswered goals in the first half, breaking the hearts of the breakers faithful who looked to claim a win on the 2020 men’s bottom side.

Men’s Highlanders captain Frazer Gerrard was a stalwart in defence, leading the defensive unit in an ultra counter-attacking style that the Breakers had no answers for, with the Highlanders out for blood, resulting in a huge win to launch their 2021 tournament run in style.
