Grand Final frenzy across WA

Hockey seasons across the state reached a conclusion over the weekend, with a festival of hockey at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University headlining a jam-packed weekend of action.

On Hockey WA’s Grand Final Day at Perth Hockey Stadium, the junior sides kicked-off the day across both fields.

In the J7/8 A Girls Division, Westside Wolves put on a show on PHS1, claiming a 5-0 win over Suburban Lions; In the Boys J7/8 A match, Victoria Park defeated UWA 4-2.

YMCC claimed the J9/10 A Girls title, defeating Hale 3-2, with Hale defeating UWA 5-3 in a goal-fest in the Boys Division.

Reds Hockey Club claimed the Women’s Premier Division 2 in a toughly fought 2-1 victory over Westside Wolves.

Reds looked composed for majority of the match, but a rampant Wolves side managed to draw level with Reds heading into the final quarter, ultimately just falling short with Reds pulling the score back.

UWA secured a thrilling win over Hale in the Men’s Premier Division 2, with the match going into extra time at 1-1 and UWA scoring to snatch the victory.

Reds were unable to secure the Premier Division 2 and 3 double in the women’s, with YMCC proving too strong in a 2-1 victory to claim the crown for the division.

The WASPs faithful came out in droves at Perth Hockey Stadium’s field 2 to support their Premier Division 3 men’s team in a match against Rockingham, with WASPs claiming the victory in a strong performance.

Across the regions of WA many association competitions came to an end in a thrilling finale to the season.

In the Geraldton Hockey Association Men’s A Grade, Casuals defeated Rovers 3-0 to claim the title; in the Women’s A Grade, it was Cardinals who claimed the victory in a 2-1 thriller over Murchison.

In the Women’s A Grade at the Lower Great Southern Hockey Association, three final-term goals sealed North Albany’s back-to-back premierships after being level at 2-2 with Mount Barker.

The Men’s A Grade saw Manypeaks defeat Spencer Park 3-0 to claim their ninth premiership in 14 years.

The Upper Great Southern Hockey Associations Women’s A Grade Grand Final saw Warriors defeat Wagin 3-0 to secure the title.

In the Men’s A Grade, Warriors defeated Riffs 3-1 to secure a double Grand Final victory for the club.

At the Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association, CBC defeated Pegasus 3-1 in the Women’s A Grade Division; Norths secured a 2-1 victory over Pegasus in the Men’s.
