Our Perth Thundersticks have pulled off a double win on home turf in exciting contests.

Women

The Perth Thundersticks latest signings were on show in another strong display, with Kaitlin Nobbs, Eva Drummond and Courtney Schonell starring in the side’s three-goal victory over Tassie Tigers in front of a home crowd.

The Thundersticks took on the Tigers in their first home game of the Liberty Hockey One season to close out Round 2 on Sunday 20 October.

The Thundersticks had a hot start with Kaitlin Nobbs scoring a field goal and a conversion in her Thundersticks debut during the opening two minutes.

As Tassie looked to respond, Candyce Peacock joined the party by scoring a penalty corner goal to bring the score up to 3-0 in the first four minutes.

Tassie would soon respond with a field goal of their own via Sarah McCambridge, followed by a penalty corner goal via Fiona Crackles.

Eva Drummond continued to star in the middle with fantastic passing, giving Courtney Schonell a great assist for a field goal, which she would soon convert to extend the home side’s lead even further.

While Tassie would make another quick response with a Bridley field goal, Aleisha Power kept the Thundersticks in front with strong pressure on conversions to keep the score at 5-3 at quarter time.

The second quarter saw the contest reach a stalemate with both sides mounting the pressure on one another, stifling opportunities to score goals.

At half time, the Thundersticks remained in front by two goals.

The stalemate continued throughout the third term with both sides continuing to make a hard press.

As the rain started to pour down, the scores remained at 5-3 at three-quarter time.

The stalemate continued through the final quarter until a strong pass from Drummond to Liné Malan helped the Thundersticks seal the deal with a last-minute field goal to win 6-3.

Drummond was named the Consolidated Minerals Player of the Match, while Schonell was named the Liberty Player of the Match for her efforts.

Men

The Perth Thundersticks have secured their first win of the season by the skin of their teeth, holding off the Tassie Tigers in a shootout contest.

Both sides made a hot start during the opening term, sizing each other up and putting the pressure on.

Amid the high-pressure contest and several close shots by the likes of Brodee Foster and Fraser Heigh, neither team were able to break through, leaving the scores at 0-0 at quarter time.

The second quarter saw a lot of the same, with both sides continuing to mount the pressure on one another.

By half time, the contest remained in a 0-0 deadlock.

The stalemate continued into the third quarter with both sides making a hard press towards goal, only to be stifled by the opposite defenders.

Despite a few late opportunities to score via penalty corner, those shots went begging as the scores remained at 0-0.

The final quarter saw plenty of back and forth between both sides, with neither side managing to break through for a goal, forcing the match into shootouts.

While Tassie managed to obtain an advantage in the early stages of the shootout via Jack Welch and Ehren Hazell, skipper Jake Harvie stepped up to score the first goal.

Goalkeeper Ben Rennie followed suit, saving shots by Hayden Beltz and Jeremy Edwards to open the door for the Thundersticks.

Ultimately Brodee Foster scored the sudden-death shot to secure the win for the Perth Thundersticks.

Jake Harvie was named the Liberty Player of the Match, as well as the Consolidated Minerals Player of the Match.
