Published Tue 06 Sep 2022

Hale are one step closer to claiming their inaugural women’s Premier League flag after defeating Westside Wolves 5-0 in the semi-final to book their place in this year’s Grand Final.

In a dominant showing for the club, four individual goal scorers hit the score board for Hale with Michaela Spano (2), Mariah Williams, Line Malan and Brooke Corbett leading the side to the claim as the team to beat in 2022.

In a thrilling do-or-die contest between UWA and Victoria Park in the other women’s final, UWA snatched the victory from Victoria Park late in the piece to advance to the next round, with Victoria Park’s season ending.

UWA’s Felicity Gallagher scored late in the final term in the 56th minute, with Victoria Park unable to level the scoring with minutes to spare.

UWA will now clash with Westside Wolves in the preliminary final on Sunday 11 September for a spot in the Grand Final against Hale.

In the men’s elimination final, UWA claimed another victory to advance to the next round – defeating Victoria Park 4-0 in a stellar finals performance for the club.

UWA’s Harry Golding scored two in the victory, with Daniel Timms and Cam Geddes also adding to the score.

UWA will now face Hale, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Reds in the other men’s final.

The victory to Reds means that they will now have the double-chance but will have to face off against the league’s top side in Melville in a blockbuster clash at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University.

All the action from the men’s semi-finals on Wednesday 7 September will be streamed live and free here.
