Harlies Hockey Club crowned Healthway Healthy Club Award winners
Published Tue 16 Mar 2021
Hockey WA congratulates Harlies Hockey Club, winners of the Healthway Healthy Club Award at Thursday night’s 2020 RAC SportsWest Awards.
Harlies Hockey Club, based in Dianella, received a nomination for the award after making significant changes to their club to promote healthy messaging to their members.
After receiving a Healthy Sporting Club Grant for the 2020 season, Harlies’ opportunity to purchase new canteen equipment became the impetus for the club to re-think their food offerings and make significant changes to provide healthier options to their member base.
Harlies also received training through the Western Australian School Canteens Association (WASCA) and the club used the knowledge gained to create and implement a balanced menu for their stakeholders.
“Harlies Hockey Club receiving the Healthway Healthy Club Award is a significant step in the right direction for our sport; it allows clubs to see that simple positive changes can make a significant impact towards their members living a healthier lifestyle,” Hockey WA CEO Fabian Ross says.
“We congratulate Harlies Hockey Club on their efforts in making these changes to the club and we hope that this achievement encourages all other clubs in the state to follow suit and provide a healthy environment for their members.”
Amongst other nominees at the 2020 RAC SportsWest Awards was Tammy Standley, who had been nominated for the TAB Official of the Year. Standley’s career as a Technical Official began in Hockey WA’s Premier League, with her career progressing to acting as a Technical Delegate & Match Manager in the FIH Pro League for 2020, as well as her appointment as a Technical Delegate in the now-postponed 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.
“We also congratulate Tammy on her nomination and thank her for her efforts across all levels of hockey and her contributions to the sport on an ongoing basis,” Ross says.
Applications for Healthway’s 2021 Winter Healthy Sporting Club Grants close 19 March, with clubs keen to increase healthy food and drink options at canteens, kiosks, or food services encouraged to apply.
