Wednesday 29 March

The WA Under-21s have wrapped up a fantastic effort at the 2023 Hockey Australia Under-21s National Championships. The Women claimed the bronze medal in dominant fashion, with an 8-0 defeat over Tasmania completing a stellar competition run. The WA Men secured a narrow 1-0 win over NSW and claimed gold in the Grand Final - going back-to-back after winning last year's competition. The win from the Men results in the first time a WA Under-21s Men's team has gone back-to-back at a National Championships since 1983 - 40 years!

Bronze Medal Match - WA Under-21 Women 8 defeat Tasmania 0

Grand Final - WA Under-21 Men 1 defeat NSW 0

Tuesday 28 March

A mixed bag of results on the penultimate day of Under-21s action will see the WA Men compete in the gold medal match after a thrilling come from behind win over Victoria, while the women will compete for bronze after suffering defeat in in a tough challenge against Queensland.

 

Semi-Final - WA Under-21 Men 5 defeat Victoria 4

Sunday 26 March

Two stunning victories for our Under-21s Men and Women see them head to the semi-finals in hot form.

 

WA Under-21 Men 4 defeat Northern Territory 0

Goals:

Kye Stirrat (9') (13'), Cambell Geddes (11'), Brodee Foster (25')

 

WA Under-21 Women 4 defeat ACT 0

Goals:

Tyler Pedley (22'), Jessica Freedman (46'), Maddison Fenwick (54'), Caitlyn Templeman (57')

 


 

Saturday 25 March

It was a dominant outing for WA in the third day of the Hockey Australia Under-21s National Championships - two wins and a combined 11 goals for our men and women.

 

WA Under-21 Men 5 defeat South Australia 3

Goals:

Brodee Foster (1') (39'), Cam Geddes (16'), Tom Keating (22'), Rinto Fukunaga (25')

 

WA Under-21 Women 6 defeat NSWB 1

Goals:

Tyler Pedley (12'), Maddison Fenwick (38'), Sienna Robinson (52'), Britney DeSilva (53'), Jessica Freedman (55'), Caitlyn Templeman (59')

 


 

Thursday 23 March 

Day two of the Hockey Australia Under-21s National Championships saw our men's side take on ACT. While the women's side scheduled game against Queensland was cancelled due to poor weather. 

 

WA Under-21 Men 5 defeat Australian Capital Territory 2

Wednesday 22 March

The WA Under-21s Men and Women had a red-hot start to their competition run, securing two wins to kick start their campaign in Sydney on day one of the Hockey Australia Under-21s National Championships.

 

WA Under-21 Men 3 defeat Queensland 0

Goals:

Brodee Foster (2'), Cam Geddes (27') (54')

 

WA Under-21 Women 2 defeat South Australia 0

Goals:

Matilda Banfield (9'), Georgia Hiskins (14')

 


 

PRE-COMPETITION INFORMATION

The next generation of aspiring Kookaburras and Hockeyroos will be out to display their talent when the 2023 Hockey Australia U21 Championships begin Wednesday 22 March at the Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre.

The highly anticipated national event, featuring eight women’s and eight men’s teams, comes just eight months after the last U21 Championships which took place in July 2022 in Perth.

Over 270 players from every state/territory will participate in the championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre, with hundreds of staff, families and spectators expected to attend.
