Hockey to return in electrifying fashion
Published Thu 29 Apr 2021
The All Flags Premier League is back this weekend, with stacks of exciting hockey planned to make up for missing out on last weekend’s action due to a snap three day lockdown in Perth.
A spectator-free Friday night will see a thrilling double header, where WASPs men’s and women’s sides will take on Wolves at Perth Hockey Stadium.
In the men’s All Flags Premier League on Saturday, top-of-the-table Melville will look to host Curtin and maintain their undefeated streak for another week, while both teams women’s sides are looking for their first wins after both drawing 3-3 in their respective matches in round one.
On Saturday, University of WA men’s and women’s teams will take on Vic Park at their home ground in Mt. Claremont, both UWA teams looking to repeat their victory from last round, after they had close wins against Wolves, then later in the day North Coast Raiders will take on YMCC in the women’s match at Warwick Hockey Centre.
Sunday will see Hale men’s and women’s side both play at their home ground; however, the men will line up against Whitford, who are yet to grab a win, and the women will take on a strong young Lions side.
Old Guildfordians and Fremantle Cockburn will play a match down at Lark Hill Sporting Complex, in the scheduled annual event which gives hockey fans in the further southern suburbs an opportunity to get involved in the spectacle of the All Flags Premier League.
Both of these sides will be looking to fight their way back up the ladder after a rocky start to the season, Fremantle Cockburn currently sitting in eighth position and Old Guildfordians in the bottom spot.
After the postponement of their ANZAC Day match at Lakelands Sporting Facility, Reds will tackle YMCC at home, with player-coach Ian Smyth still giving expertise from the sideline after his recent facial injury.
