Hockey WA celebrates opening of Dayton hockey turfs

Hockey WA is pleased to congratulate the City of Swan, Ellenbrook Falcons Hockey Club, and Eastern Blades Hockey Club for the recent opening of a multimillion-dollar sport and recreation hub that features two hockey fields.

The City of Swan opened the Dayton District Open Space to sporting clubs and the wider community earlier this month.

Situated 25 minutes from the Perth CBD and 21 minutes from Charles Riley Reserve, the hockey fields within the Dayton District Open Space will be the home base for the Ellenbrook Falcons and Eastern Blades Hockey Clubs.

Along with the Ellenbrook Falcons and the Eastern Blades, Harlies will also be using the new venue.

Ellenbrook Falcons Hockey Club president Steve Rogers said it was fantastic for all 180 members of the club to have a facility to call home for games and training sessions.

“For us, it will bring all of our players and families together in the one place, which we’ve never had before,” he said.

“It also gives us a community facility which can be used for more than just sport.”

Mr Rogers also noted it was particularly unique to have access to a dry hockey turf and a wet hockey turf at the same facility.

“To have one of each gives our players the ability to play on both surfaces,” he said.

“It’s a pretty amazing facility, including the infrastructure around there – it’s got all of the stuff that we need.”

Hockey WA CEO Fabian Ross said the opening of the new hockey fields within the Dayton District Open Space plays an important role in the Hockey WA Strategic Facilities Planning process.

“It is vital for the growth of hockey that we have quality facilities and playing surfaces in growth areas of the Perth metropolitan area,” he said.

“Congratulations to the City of Swan, Ellenbrook Falcons and Eastern Blades on the opening of the new turfs at the Dayton District Open Space.”
