Hockey WA celebrates WA representation in Kookaburras, Hockeyroos squads

Hockey WA is proud to celebrate the outstanding representation of WA-based athletes at the highest level of the sport following Hockey Australia's announcement of the final 2025 Kookaburras squad.
Joining Dardanup-raised Kookaburra Jake Harvie in the squad are his brother, Tom Harvie, along with Perth-based athletes James Collins and Cambell Geddes.
Collins makes his return to the national squad, while Tom Harvie and Geddes earn their places for the first time, having debuted in the Sydney Pro League and Argentina Pro League, respectively.
For Tom Harvie, his selection into the national squad is the product of years of hard work, tenacity and resilience.
“It was more relief than anything," he said.
"It’s been a long couple of years, so when the news finally came through, it was just an overwhelming feeling of relief once it was finally here.
“Waiting for the selection email came around slowly… I was with Jake at the time and my email wasn’t loading so he had to open it for me and I actually think he was more nervous than I was!
“I’ve opened a fair few negative emails so to finally get a positive one was pretty overwhelming and I’m just very stoked.”
Geddes credited his selection into the 2025 Kookaburras squad to the selectors seeing his potential in the midfield, something he did not initially envision for himself prior to his debut in Argentina.
“All throughout juniors, I played fullback, free defender or halfback," Geddes said.
"I played a little bit of midfield through the club, but as a young junior, I didn’t want to put too much pressure on myself in that position.
“I just went out there in Argentina trying to enjoy it and embrace it and go, "No, I'm up for it," and try to smile through everything that I'm doing on the field, and that helped… A lot of hard work has led to this and it was pretty cool seeing my name on the selection email.”
Adding to WA's strong presence, goalkeeper Christian Starkie has been named as a Tier 1 athlete.
This announcement follows the unveiling of the 2025 Hockeyroos squad in December, which includes six WA-based athletes: Kaitlin Nobbs, Lexie Pickering, Aleisha Power, Courtney Schonell, Karri Somerville, and Penny Squibb.
Further strengthening WA’s contributions to the national program, Pippa Morgan and Jesse Reid have been named Tier 1 athletes within the National Development Squad, while Neasa Flynn and Sarah Byrnes join the Development Squad.
Hockey WA extends its heartfelt congratulations to all athletes selected for the Kookaburras, Hockeyroos, and National Development squads.
The remarkable level of WA representation across our national teams is a testament to the state's hockey talent, and we look forward to supporting our athletes on their journey.
