Hockey WA CEO announces departure

Published Wed 02 Dec 2020

Hockey WA has today announced Chief Executive Officer Stu Gilsenan has resigned.

In a successful three-year stint at the organisation, Gilsenan oversaw a period of significant change, including the launch of the sport’s new national competition, the Sultana Bran Hockey One League. Strong participation growth, including the introduction of new market opportunities and the establishment of the Hockey Foundation of WA, the organisation’s charitable arm, has seen hockey’s footprint continue to flourish.

More significantly, his navigation of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing disruption felt across the entire community, saw Hockey WA play a lead role in ensuring a safe return to play across the sector.

Gilsenan will look to explore other opportunities following a professional handover period.

Hockey WA President Michael Henderson expressed his sincere thanks to the departing CEO. “While we are all sad to see Stu depart, he will certainly energise another worthy organisation and he leaves Hockey WA with our best wishes,” Henderson said. “Stu has achieved a great number of strategic and operational objectives in his time as CEO, and he leaves with the organisation in a strong position primed for our next exciting horizon of growth.”

Henderson said the Board has commenced recruitment for a new CEO.

Gilsenan said he was proud of his achievements in his time in the role.

“I have really enjoyed my Hockey WA journey and the successes this organisation has achieved during my time at the helm,” Gilsenan said.

“To be able to step away from this sport knowing this wonderful hockey community and is primed to embrace 2021 and beyond with a sense of strength and optimism is something that I will personally take huge pride in. There can be no better and fitting tribute than that of the dedication and the unwavering passion of my team here at Hockey WA and this will undoubtedly underpin the organisation’s continued growth into the next strategic plan.”
