Published Thu 23 Jun 2022
Junior hockey sides from around the world will have the opportunity to compete against other international sides in elite-level competition when the Hockey WA Gryphon Cup hits the Perth Hockey Stadium in Perth, Western Australia, from 20 November 2022.
The Hockey WA Gryphon Cup, a competition open to international teams comprising of players 16-and-under, will involve teams from across the globe competing in a round-robin tournament set to culminate in a scintillating finals series.
Hockey WA Head of Asian Engagement, Chris Ciriello, says it’s a fantastic opportunity for teams from across the globe to experience high-level competition play.
“We are really excited to be able to deliver the Hockey WA Gryphon Cup in 2022,” Ciriello said.
“The competition will provide a good opportunity for teams from across the globe to compete in an elite competition against some of the world’s best junior sides, exposing them to different game styles and furthering each individual side’s development for years to come.
“The competition has been successfully held in prior years and many players have gone on to play for their national sides – we are pleased to see it return to its full glory.”
Hockey WA CEO, Fabian Ross, says he is excited to welcome international teams to Perth.
“The Hockey WA Gryphon Cup is an exciting competition – it’s a great opportunity to welcome teams from across the globe,” Ross says.
“The home of hockey in Australia is right here at the Perth Hockey Stadium and the facilities are world-class, with Australia’s national sides in the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras calling the stadium home.
“A key driver of Hockey WA is to further our connection with countries and teams beyond our shores, particularly in the Asian and Pacific regions, and the Hockey WA Gryphon Cup allows us to welcome these countries in an elite and welcoming environment.”
Cultural experiences packages are also available for interested teams, providing attendees the opportunity to experience the sights of the Perth Metropolitan region, some of the best experiences WA has to offer.
