Published Thu 11 May 2023

Hockey WA is proud to announce that the organisation has achieved Bronze Level certification for the Pride in Sport Index by Pride in Sport, recognising the ongoing commitment to work in the LGBTIQ+ space.

The Pride in Sport Index is the first and only benchmarking instrument specifically designed to assess the inclusion of people with diverse sexualities and genders within Australian sporting organisations and codes.

This presents the first time that Hockey WA has received the certification, highlighting the commitment to ensuring that hockey in Western Australia is an inclusive sport that is welcoming of members from all backgrounds.

Bronze Level certification is awarded to organisations within the top 30% of sporting organisations nationally.

“We are incredibly proud as an organisation to receive the Pride in Sport bronze certification,” Hockey WA General Manager Game and Community Development, Shayley McGurk Davy said.

“Achieving bronze aligns with our strategic plan and commitment to work in the LGBTIQ+ space, and we are thrilled that the work undertaken by many parties to ensure our sport is inclusive of all has been recognised with such an honour.

“Hockey truly is the sport for all, and we are thrilled to be a part of one of the leading sports nation-wide that aims to create welcoming and inclusive environments for people of all backgrounds.”

Hockey WA would also like to congratulate Hockey ACT on winning the Sporting Organisation of the Year Award at the Pride in Sport Australia Awards. Hockey Australia, Hockey Queensland and Hockey Victoria were also awarded Silver in the index. Congratulations to all – Hockey WA is proud to play a part in hockey’s nation-wide achievement as a leading sport in the inclusive space.

Hockey WA is committed to elevating the work undertaken in the inclusion space for the sport in the state. People from all walks of life play our great sport, and Hockey WA will continue to highlight the importance of this to ensure a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for the wider hockey community.
