Hockey WA supports SportWest's True Sport - Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative
Published Fri 13 Oct 2023
Hockey WA is proud to support SportWest's launch of its True Sport Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative.
On World Mental Health Day, Tuesday 10 October, SportWest announced the official launch of its True Sport Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative.
Through a range of online resources and an eLearning course, the initiative will assist State Sporting Associations and other sporting organisation staff to respond to mental health incidents and promote proactive mental health and wellbeing in community sport.
Supported by the Mental Health Commission, the True Sport Mental Health & Wellbeing initiative has been specifically designed to help sporting organisations, employees and volunteers respond appropriately to mental health concerns in a sporting context - including upskilling the sector around incident response, intervention, prevention and proactive promotion of mental health and wellbeing.
With increased support by the State Government, the initiative will also deliver an industry-wide pilot Employee Assistance Program for State Sporting Association employees, as well as an exciting industry-first Volunteer Assistance Program - providing critical incident support to sport volunteers across the State.
The True Sport resources were developed utilising the expertise of clinical psychologist and mental health training expert, Kellie Lewis from The Mental Project, empowering sporting organisations to provide a setting for belonging and connection, as well as a stigma free, inclusive and supportive environment.
