Published Wed 12 May 2021

Hockey WA President Michael Henderson has been selected as a finalist for the Western Australian of the Year Awards, in the Professions Award category, in a timely recognition of his achievements across a range of sectors.

Professor Henderson has led Hockey WA since 2020 and his experience working with industry, Federal and State governments has been instrumental in WA hockey successfully navigating the major challenges being faced by all sports in Australia and globally.

Hockey WA chief executive Fabian Ross said being named a finalist in the awards was a well-deserved honour for Professor Henderson and reflected the breadth and quality of his work and philanthropic pursuits.

“Hockey WA is well served by an extremely strong Board and Professor Henderson has played a large role in its formation,” Mr Ross said.

“The strategic planning and work completed by Professor Henderson at Hockey WA in the past 18 months, leading initiatives for a new home for Hockey WA in the form of an International Hockey Centre of Excellence and improving our links with industry, government and international hockey federations, has put the sport in a strong position for the future.”

The Western Australian of the Year Awards will be held on 4 June.
