Jake Harvie: “There is a heap of belief that we can go the whole way.”

The Perth Thundersticks men’s team suffered their first loss of the season in round four of this year’s Hockey One season against the NSW Pride, but the belief that the group can go the whole way remains alive within the team.

The men’s side won three on the trot to kick-start their season, with the tough match up against NSW ending in a narrow 4-3 defeat.

Kookaburra and Perth Thundersticks star Jake Harvie says the group remains positive after their first hiccup of the season.

“NSW are a great side and we gave ourselves a heap of chances but just fell short in the end,” Harvie said.

“For us, we just want to stick to our game and continue to focus on playing our roles at a high quality.

“If we keep chipping away at our processes and sticking to our guns, we will get some more positive outcomes.”

The belief within the group has not diminished, with Harvie sure that they will be back on the winners list soon and hopes within the group to go the whole way.

“There is a heap of belief within the group that we can go the whole way,” Harvie said.

“We have been competitive in all of our matches so far and we are still improving.

“We have such a young and exciting group and the energy from each individual really shows that we think we can be there on the final day of this year’s season and we are going to give it a good crack.”

This season of Hockey One has seen a role change for Harvie, with the defender playing more of a role up the field, one in which he has enjoyed.

“It’s been good fun to play a bit of a different role this season,” Harvie said.

“I have really enjoyed playing in the midfield and being around the action a bit more, with and without the ball, which I think the fun I’m having has translated into some decent hockey on a personal level.

The Thundersticks will now look toward their next challenge in the Tassie Tigers for their final home game of the season on Saturday 29 October.

“The crowds in Perth have been amazing to play in front of,” Harvie said.

“It is fantastic for the sport and the support has been immense.

“I know that the teams really feed off the crowd’s energy and excitement, so I encourage everyone to come down and support us in our final home hit out of the season.”
