Lockdown is over and All Flags Premier League action returns!

Published Thu 01 Jul 2021

All Flags Premier League action is back, with no crowds, after a brief lockdown, with this weekend's hot lineup featuring a top-of-the-table clash between Melville and UWA's men.

Melville, currently on 12 wins from 13 matches, are the favourites heading into the match, however UWA's strong form in the past weeks will provide a challenge for the top side.

James Day continues to lead the race for the Eric Pearce Leading Goal Scorer award, now sitting on a whopping 27 goals so far in 2021.

This week's matches temporarily looked unlikely, with rounds 14 (men) and 11 (women) paused when Premier Mark McGowan called an emergency press conference at 8pm Monday evening, announcing a snap four-day lockdown.

Lockdown's end fell at 12.01 this morning, just in time for All Flags Premier League action to be back, and with no scheduled games for Friday evening, fans won't miss any of the action.

A double-header between WASPs and Victoria Park will begin this week's battles, with the women's match featuing two top-five sides.

In the women's All Flags Premier League, fifth-placed WASPs will look to defeat a dominant Victoria Park, which is currently sitting atop the ladder after its victory over Hale last weekend.

The men's match between the two sides will see a third-placed Victoria Park take on eighth-placed WASPS, with three wins separating these two sides on the standings.

Another two double-header rounds will be played out between YMCC and Wolves, and Curtin and Hale.

YMCC's women's side is still chasing its first win this year, coming close last week in a narrow 2-1 loss to WASPs.

With just one win separating YMCC and Wolves in the men's All Flags Premier League, the dictating match between the two is one that is sure to excite, as the race toward finals begins.

Sunday afternoon in the men's competition, a winless Curtin will host Hale at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University, with seventh-placed Hale looking to edge itself back toward the top five.

Hale women's side will look to repeat the success it had in its round two clash against Curtin, able to come out victorious 3-0 when these two last met.

The Old Guildfordians men will take a side in wooden-spoon contention when it lines up against Whitford Sunday afternoon.

Melville and UWA will contest in both the women's and men's competition, the women's round two match played just a month ago between these two sides resulting in UWA playing out a 6-2 drubbing over Melville.

The women's All Flags Premier League match between North Coast Raiders and Lions will determine who jumps ahead, with both teams sitting low on the ladder at just three wins and two draws from ten matches, and eleven points each.

In what was meant to be Old Aquinians Indigenous Round match, Reds will play Fremantle Cockburn at their home ground, the match earlier this year between these two postponed due to a previous COVID lockdown.

COVID restrictions meant the club has decided to celebrate the round on a day where everyone can attend and enjoy the ceremonies and cultural experiences.
