Massive year of events in store for Hockey WA in 2025

Get ready for an unforgettable year of hockey as WA gears up for an exciting 2025 season!

From local tournaments and themed rounds to national and international showdowns, Hockey WA has something for every fan and athlete.

Stiles Electrical Premier League

Australia’s best hockey athletes from state, national and international sides will take centre stage once again as the Stiles Electrical Premier League returns for 2025.

The 2025 season will once again see both the Men’s and Women’s competitions begin at the same time, with two Gala Rounds taking place from Friday 21 March, before the season officially kicks off from Friday 4 April.

Teams will compete at various Perth venues over 20 rounds before the competition culminates with the Finals in September.

The season will also feature various themed rounds throughout the year such as the Anzac Day Round, the Lizzie Watkins Organ Donor Round, a Regional Round, Indigenous Round, Pride Round, Breast Cancer Care Round and the R U OK Round.

Finalised fixtures and live broadcast dates are to be confirmed so keep your eyes peeled for more updates.


Senior, Junior & Masters Season

Coinciding with the Stiles Electrical Premier League, the Senior, Junior and Masters seasons will return for 2025, ensuring plenty of hockey action for all ages.

The Senior and Masters competitions will commence from Saturday 5 April, while the Junior competitions will begin from Friday 2 May.

Teams will compete to be the best of the best across various Perth venues, with the season culminating with the Finals in September.

Championships & Carnivals

On top of what is set to be an electrifying season, a plethora of Championship tournaments and Carnivals are on the agenda for 2025, giving locals the opportunity to represent their club, town, and/or Western Australia on a larger scale.

Hockey Australia have various National Championship tournaments returning for 2025, fresh off the back of the 2024/25 Indoor Championships in December and January at the Canberra National Hockey Centre.

Upcoming National Championships include the Under-16 National Championships in Adelaide, SA, the Under-21 National Championships in Bendigo, VIC, the Under-18 National Championships in Perth, WA, the National Country Championships in Rockhampton, QLD, the Men’s Masters Championships in Newcastle, NSW, the Women’s Masters Championships in Hobart, TAS, and the Under-14 National Championships taking place at a venue to be confirmed.

Locally, the ever-popular CBH Country Championships will make their return in June, showcasing the best regional WA has to offer. The Women’s competition will take place from Friday 13 June to Sunday 15 June, followed by the Men’s competition from Friday 20 June to Sunday 22 June.

The KMSB Youth International Gryphon Cup will also take place from Thursday 20 November to Sunday 23 November as it continues to grow in popularity amongst junior athletes across WA, Australia and Asia.

Junior athletes will also have the chance to compete for club bragging rights during the Fuel to Go & Play Club Championships, taking place throughout July at Perth Hockey Stadium and the UWA Superturfs, while details surrounding the Indoor iteration are to be confirmed.

It’s not just the Perth metropolitan area that will be facilitating carnivals, with the South West Junior Carnival also set to make its return during the WA Day long weekend, as well as a further carnival in Narrogin in July.


Hockey One

Off the back of an action-packed 2024 Liberty Hockey One season, the Perth Thundersticks will make their big return for the 2025 season.

Our Women’s team will be looking to back up their dominant, unbeaten 2024 run that saw them crowned champions for the first time, while our Men’s team will seek to improve on their 2024 finals berth.

Team announcements, fixtures and details regarding tickets and memberships will be revealed throughout the year so keep your eyes peeled!


FIH Pro League

The Hockeyroos and Kookaburras will have another big year of competition ahead of them as the FIH Pro League returns for 2025.

It will all kick off in February when both the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras will compete in their first Pro League matches for the year at Sydney Olympic Park against the likes of Spain, Netherlands and China.

Following the Sydney leg, both teams will compete in further matches in Argentina and throughout Europe.

Following the Pro League matches, both the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras will compete in the 2025 Oceania Cup, serving as qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The Hockeyroos revealed its 2025 squad in December 2024, featuring several Perth Thundersticks talents in Kaitlin Nobbs, Lexie Pickering, Aleisha Power, Courtney Schonell, Karri Somerville and Penny Squibb.

The Kookaburras also revealed its squad in late 2024, as well as a ‘wider squad’, extending an exciting opportunity for more players to represent the Kookaburras.

Jake Harvie has been named in the Kookaburras squad for 2025, while James Collins, Max Freedman, Cam Geddes, Tom Harvie, Ollie Higgins and Christian Starkie are part of the wider squad.

Matches will be broadcast on 7Plus so you don’t miss a moment and show your support for the WA-raised Hockeyroos and Kookaburras throughout the year.


FIH Indoor World Cup

Off the back of the Hockey Australia National Indoor Championships in Canberra throughout December and January, Australia will return to the FIH Indoor World Cup, taking place in Croatia from Monday 3 February to Sunday 9 February.

After qualifying for the World Cup by triumphing at the 2024 Oceania Indoor World Cup qualifiers, both the Australian Men’s and Women’s sides will contest as a top five nation.

Make sure you’re showing your support for Ben Rennie, who will line up for a historic fourth World Cup, and Lizzy Duguid, who will make her third World Cup appearance.


Junior World Cup Qualifiers

December will bring forth the FIH Junior World Cup, which will see the best Under-21 athletes the world has to offer converge on Chennai, India for the Men’s competition, and Santiago, Chile for the Women’s competition.

For the first time, both the Men’s and Women’s competition will feature 24 teams.

But first, Australia’s Burras and Jillaroos are competing in the 2025 Junior Oceania Cup taking place in Auckland, New Zealand from January 30 to February 2, which serves as qualifers for the Junior World Cup.

The Junior Oceania Cup will see a few of WA’s young guns look to tear up the turf to help the Burras and the Jillaroos secure a World Cup berth so make sure you’re showing you support!

Travelling to New Zealand with the Burras will be Patrick Andrew, Matthew Edwards and Ian Grobbelaar, while Summer Greenway, Georgia Hiskins and Saysha Pillay will feature for the Jillaroos.


Indoor Season

The Hockey WA Indoor season will return for 2025 with competitions for both Senior and Junior divisions.

The season will take place from mid-October to mid-December, comprising of eight rounds and one week of finals.
