Navigating Player Selections for the Hockey WA Post-Season: What You Need to Know

Published Fri 02 Aug 2024

As we approach the exciting final stages of the hockey season, Hockey WA is here to help teams manage player selections effectively during the Restricted Period. This time frame, starting Friday 2 August, requires special attention, especially with the upcoming playoff and finals scenarios. To assist, we’ve developed a new system that can streamline tracking player eligibility and selections.

Key Points to Remember

1. Restricted Period Timeline

For all Senior and Masters Leagues, the Restricted Period begins on Friday August 2. This period covers the final four weeks of Premier Divisions, and the last three weeks of all other Senior Turf League, Metropolitan League, Weekend Masters and Midweek Masters divisions.

2. Player Movement Rules

  • During the Restricted Period, a maximum of two (2) players can be dropped from a higher division team to a lower division team.
  • Any player that is dropped to a lower division as a double-up or replacement cannot play a second game in that same league.
  • Any player playing in their regular graded can continue to double-up into higher divisions but cannot double-up into lower divisions.

3. Qualification for Finals

To be eligible for finals, players must have played more games in the division they wish to qualify for by the end of the Restricted Period. In previous seasons, clubs have been able to use the Restricted Period to qualify a player for Finals, this is no longer available to clubs.

What We've Done to Help

To assist with these rules, Hockey WA has created a Player Information Spreadsheet (which has been distributed to Club Presidents, Contacts, Coaches & Specific League Contacts) that intends to assist in determining player eligibility. Here's what you need to know about it:

  • The spreadsheet has been created with data that has been exported from RevSPORT on a weekly basis (Tuesdays and Fridays) based on what information was put in the system at that time.
  • Data from early rounds before Divisions were re-graded have been kept so all players that recorded stats in those games continue to be used for qualification.
  • Some data corrections or late entries might not be reflected in the spreadsheet.

For clubs that use their own systems to track player eligibility, the Player Information Spreadsheet should support and reinforce your efforts. If you find any discrepancies between your records and our spreadsheet, please contact us for corrections.

This spreadsheet will be what Hockey WA uses as a starting point to determine player eligibility. If there is anyone you believe is on the cusp between two divisions, please make sure that all online statistics are accurate, and contact us if discrepancies arise.

We hope this tool helps simplify the process and wish you the best as you finish the season strong! If you have any questions or need further clarification, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.
