Sport provides children with a fantastic opportunity to build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of accomplishment, and a new resource from Sport Integrity Australia aims to foster positive parental behaviour in sport.

Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) has partnered with the creators of the documentary 'Unbreakable: The Jelena Dokic Story' to raise awareness of the importance of implementing safeguarding practices in sport.

Positive parent involvement plays a crucial role in shaping a child's sporting experience.

When children and young athletes feel supported, respected and safe, they are more likely to enjoy the game, develop confidence, and stay engaged in sports for the long term.

To helps parents, guardians, and supporters create a positive environment, SIA has shared key principles that encourage healthy participation in sports:

✅ Encourage, don’t pressure
✅ Celebrate effort, not just results
✅ Model respect for officials, coaches & opponents
✅ Prioritise fun, safety & wellbeing

By embracing these values we can build a hockey community - and a broader sporting culture - that is inclusive, supportive, and inspiring for the next generation.

Let's all commit to make sport a place where every child can grow, learn, and love the game!
