Teams from across WA, Victoria, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore hit the turf at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University in a red hot first day of action in this year's OMSB Youth International Gryphon Cup.

After the first round of pool games, in the girls competition, the Highlanders sit in first place for Pool A, with Japan leading the way in Pool B.

Pool A is hotly contested after day one, with the Highlanders in first after recording a 6-0 win over Singapore, improving on their opening result of a 0-0 draw against Ciriello Coaching Academy, who sit in second place after two matches.

Japan kick-started their competition run in emphatic style in Pool B, recording 5-0 wins over the Storm and Breakers, resulting in a goal difference of 10 - the Stars sit hot on their heels in second place, with two wins and a goal difference of eight.

In the boys competition, it's the Storm who lead the way in Pool 1, securing a 3-0 win over the Breakers to open the competition and adding a dominant 6-0 victory over the JM Hornets.

In Pool 2, Ciriello Coaching Academy also recorded two wins without conceeding, defeating the Outbacks 4-0 and the Lightning 5-0.

With strong scorelines the feature, Saskia Lehmann of the Waves leads the girls competition goal scoring with three goals to her name, while Oliver Elliot of Ciriello Coaching Academy leads the boys with four.
