Perth Thundersticks Academy to offer even more opportunities throughout March & April

Aspiring hockey talents are set to be able to take advantage of even more training opportunities thanks to an expansion of the Perth Thundersticks Academy.
Throughout March and April, the Perth Thundersticks will hold a series of regular training programs to prepare players for the upcoming season and WA State selection team trials across four hubs: North, South, East and West.
While the North and South hubs will return to their respective bases of Troy Pickard Hockey Centre and Lakelands Hockey & Sporting Facility, an additional South hub will be based out of Melville Toyota Stadium, while the East hub will serve athletes based in the eastern region of the Perth Metropolitan area at Dayton District Open Space.
After previously being on hold due to turf maintenance in the region, Hockey WA is thrilled to announce a West Academy hub has been established to serve athletes based in the western region of the Perth Metropolitan area at Hale Hockey Club.
The expansion of the number of Perth Thundersticks Academy Hubs to three will give players the chance to receive high-quality training from specialist coaches and local Premier League players, without worrying about lengthy travel time.

The Perth Thundersticks Academy training program is open to all players aged within the Year 6 to 11 school years that are wanting to develop their skills outside of club development programs.
Focus points throughout the training programs include:
· Essential stick & ball skill refinement
· Close decision-making strategies through mini games
· Specialist skills such as goal scoring, penalty corner development and shootouts
· Match preparation and post-match recovery
· Positional education and expectations
· Goalkeeper training focusing on repetitive efforts and developing first touch and clearance work
