Perth Thundersticks to battle Hockey Australia High Performance squads

Western Australia’s Perth Thundersticks face the ultimate test from this Wednesday 14 September – facing off against the Hockey Australia High Performance squads – in the lead-up to the Sultana Bran Hockey One League season.

The Thundersticks male and female squads face Australia’s men and women in four fixtures across a week, with matches played on Wednesday 14 and Wednesday 21 September. Three matches will be played at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University with one men’s fixture to be played at Hale Turf.

The Hockey Australia High Performance squads will feature Hockeyroos, Kookaburras and players from the National Development squads, with some fresh off of medal-winning performances at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The clashes present a wonderful opportunity for the Perth Thundersticks’ preparations ahead of this year’s Sultana Bran Hockey One League season, set to commence from Saturday 1 October against the Adelaide Fire at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University.

Elite-level hockey won’t be the only thing on offer at Thundersticks v Hockey Australia High Performance squad matches – patrons are invited to have photos with the players and capture autographs at the conclusion of the fixtures on 21 September.

“We are incredibly excited about the Perth Thundersticks’ season and these free match viewing opportunities in the lead-up to our opening matches provide sports fans and hockey tragics the opportunity to see some of Australia’s finest players up close and personal,” Hockey WA CEO Fabian Ross said.

“We want to get all of Western Australia behind our players and can’t wait to see lots of fans both at these matches and at our competition matches in October at Perth Hockey Stadium.”
