Perth Thundersticks to clash with Olympics-bound Kiwis
Published Fri 11 Jun 2021
The Perth Thundersticks men’s and women’s hockey squads will be afforded an opportunity of a lifetime later this month, when they go head-to-head with Olympic talent, the New Zealand Black Sticks, in a series of matches hosted at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University.
The Black Sticks, who are heading to Perth for their FIH Pro League series on June 26 and 27 against the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras at the same venue, will face local Thundersticks talent in newly scheduled matches that further consolidates a feast of high-quality hockey.
Fans will be given the opportunity to watch the series of matches at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University and get a glimpse up close of Olympic-standard hockey in the lead up to the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games – at no cost.
Hockey WA CEO Fabian Ross says it’s an amazing opportunity for WA’s premier hockey team the Perth Thundersticks to gain invaluable experience against a high-quality opposition.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for some of our Perth Thundersticks squads to face an opposition of this calibre who are in their preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo – and it provides excellent match experience for our teams ahead of the upcoming Sultana Bran Hockey One League,” Ross says.
“We hope to see fans flock to Perth Hockey Stadium to see some of the world’s most elite hockey talent go head-to-head in what will be an entertaining match-up.”
The women’s Perth Thundersticks and Black Sticks squads face-off on Monday June 21 and Wednesday June 23, with the men’s hitting the field on Tuesday 29 June and Wednesday 30 June. Entry into Perth Thundersticks v Black Sticks matches is free. Tickets to the FIH Pro League series on June 26 and 27, featuring Australian and New Zealand Olympics sides, are on sale now.
